There is a fundamental shift away from physical cards and keys toward digital identities — mobile credentials, digital wallets, biometrics, and cloud-native access platforms. At the same time, AI and analytics solutions are being layered onto these physical access control systems to support predictive threat detection and behavioural insights. Access data itself is becoming an asset for sustainability, space optimisation, and smart building initiatives. The survey cites improving user convenience as a priority for nearly half of organisations, while 41% are focused on simplifying administration, and 28% struggle with system integration. These are not theoretical challenges, they are day‑to‑day friction points that add cost, increase risk, impact operations and experience, and, of course, must be addressed. HID Global’s commercial focus HID Global’s commercial focus is to help organisations digitise their access control — with mobile identities, biometrics, and cloud platforms — and then to use the data to deliver more value. “We are turning access control from an operational cost into a software-driven asset that improves efficiency, supports Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals and even creates new revenue opportunities,” says Steven Commander, HID Global’s Head of Consultant Relations. Rather, transformation is about turning software, data and integration into outcomes that matter to customers, says HID. “Security becomes stronger and more adaptive,” says Commander. “Operations become simpler and more cost‑effective. Experiences become seamless and consistent. Sustainability moves from ambition to action. And the financial case becomes clearer as efficiencies are banked and new value streams emerge.” The challenge of futureproofing with long lifecycles Given that physical security technologies will be in place for 15 to 20 years, it is important to plan for how systems can evolve over time. Considering how rapidly security threats, compliance standards, and user expectations change, 15 to 20 years is a long time. The decisions made at the beginning of a system’s lifecycle can either limit flexibility later (which will be costly) or enable long-term adaptability. Digital credentials and mobile access Flexibility and upgradeability should also be top of mind when it comes to endpoints like access control readers. While RFID cards are still commonplace, there is a clear trend toward digital credentials and mobile access. Readers that support both allow organisations to transition at their own pace, without committing to a full system overhaul. A long system lifecycle does not mean technology should remain static. Security, particularly cybersecurity, demands more frequent updates. Technologies that support firmware upgrades in the field extend the value of a deployment while helping organisations keep pace with emerging threats. In that sense, lifecycle thinking is not just about longevity — it’s about maintaining resilience and readiness over time. Many organisations are now deploying biometrics to support fast, seamless access journeys, with adoption already around 39% in access control according to HID’s recent research.  In addition, 80% of organisations surveyed expect to deploy mobile identities within the next five years. Energy use and CO₂ emissions can be cut dramatically, showing how access systems can contribute to sustainability goals and green building certification. What is the latest in smart buildings? Smart buildings increasingly rely on mobile access control as the backbone for digital services. Real-time access data enables new services such as automated room bookings, HVAC control, lift/elevator calling, e-bike hiring, and so on. Smart buildings increasingly rely on mobile access control as the backbone for digital services The financial upside is clear; smart, digitally transformed buildings can deliver around 8% higher yields per square foot versus traditional office space. Operational savings accrue from reduced administration, the removal of card production and shipping, and lighter IT support. This creates a value cycle — better experiences drive adoption, adoption fuels monetisation, and monetisation funds further improvements. Achieving technology impact in the real world One standout project is One Bangkok – a $3.9 billion mixed used development in Thailand – which demonstrates the scale of what can be achieved when access control data is used for optimisation, particularly when it comes to monitoring facilities usage and occupier behaviours. By switching lights off or lowering the temperature in unused rooms, for example, the One Bangkok building demonstrates this potential with a 22% reduction in energy consumption, saving 17,000 MWh and 9,000 tons of CO₂ annually.  Sustainability is a key factor in contributing to how properties are valued. And sustainability extends far beyond digital credentials having a lower environmental impact than plastic cards.  Buildings with recognised sustainability certifications often command rental premiums of around 6%, and three‑quarters of security decision‑makers now consider environmental impact in their procurement assessments.

This new Age Verification upgrade gives the ability to create, manage, and review age verification sessions on their own, separately from iDenfy’s standard identity verification flow metrics, while still relying on the same level of security. That means iDenfy’s users will now be able to choose an alternative, non-document-based Age Estimation workflow, designed to convert more users while still complying with age check requirements. Age verification workflow Age Estimation is a process that determines whether a user meets a minimum age requirement using a real-time selfie or via an uploaded document with the picture, if that requires a compliance policy, such as iGaming or financial industries. It is also commonly used by platforms that must confirm age eligibility before granting access to certain products or content. Previously, iDenfy’s platform offered an age verification workflow that required the end-user to upload a photo of their government-issued ID document. Now, with the new add-on of Age Estimation, this step can be removed, and the user can only be asked to capture their selfie biometrics. The system then determines the person’s age based on their facial features. Official API documentation Rather than treating age estimation as a feature bundled inside a broader onboarding flow, iDenfy has built it out with its own permission structure, billing model, and API endpoints, so its partners that only need Age Estimation checks are not required to adopt the full identity verification stack to access it. As a result, iDenfy’s users can view a full sessions list, generate tokens, and open a detailed session page from a single, centralised view, all supported by their own custom settings, fully encoded verification URLs, and official API documentation. Configurable age limit When a business enables the age estimation flow, the end user is asked to capture a live selfie, which is compared against a configurable age limit and buffer zone set by the business. It is worth mentioning that iDenfy’s age estimation tool can estimate people’s age within 3 years of gap accuracy, and control the age limit businesses want to provide access to their products. Users who are clearly above the age threshold pass in seconds using only a selfie. On the other hand, users whose estimated age falls near the legal limit are automatically routed to a certified ID document check within the same session, where the date of birth on the document, not the model’s estimate and make the final decision. Personal data businesses iDenfy claims that most young adults who are over 25 are considered easily verifiable. However, many companies have a hard time differentiating 18 to 24 age category. These users often still look young, and their facial features can be shaped by genetics or other external factors that potentially can mislead their verification systems. According to Domantas Ciulde, the CEO of iDenfy, the update reflects a broader pattern the company has noticed among its partners that operate in age-restricted and regulated markets: “Age estimation only works if the people using it can actually see what’s happening inside each session. We improved our product against disguises such as makeup or a moustache to precisely estimate people’s age and brought it into the dashboard with its own sessions list and detail view,” commented Domantas Ciulde. Validated age data reduces the risk of underage access to restricted products, platforms, and content, while limiting how much of the personal data businesses need to collect in the process. Because most users pass on a selfie alone, companies avoid asking their entire user base to submit a government ID just to prove they are old enough. This supports compliance with regulations such as the UK Online Safety Act, the EU Digital Services Act’s age assurance guidance, and GDPR’s data minimisation principle, as well as emerging state-level age verification laws in the United States and Australia’s under-16 social media restrictions. Centralising session creation Because the estimate and the document fallback now run inside the same session and the same dashboard, review and audit work move faster too. Compliance teams can see what was checked without needing to reconcile records across separate tools. “Centralising session creation and results in one dashboard view might sound like a small operational detail, but for partners that run age checks at scale, it removes a lot of manual tracking that used to happen outside our platform,” added Domantas Ciulde, the CEO of iDenfy. Consequently, with the help of AI, mobile has become the most vulnerable attack surface in the enterprise. "AI has changed the game on securing mobile. It's making mobile attacks easier, scalable, and much more sophisticated. It’s forcing organisations to rethink how they ensure trust and guard against fraud on the devices and mobile apps that their employees and customers rely on every day," said Shridhar Mittal, CEO of Zimperium. "Whether in the private sector or government, mobile devices and apps have become central to driving business, building customer trust, and enabling mission-critical operations. Zimperium’s data shows that phishing events detected on employee mobile devices grew 380% since January 2025, and the number of devices where employees clicked a malicious link grew 110% in 2025 over the previous year.  The report also found that AI is used to generate content estimated to be 4.5x more convincing than anything human-written while almost 86% of phishing attacks now contain AI-generated elements. These findings highlight how generative AI is enabling attackers to launch increasingly personalised and scalable phishing campaigns. Intellectual property protection Spyware also continues to proliferate across enterprise devices. The report found spyware is now present on nearly one in ten mobile devices—an increase of more than 4x year over year, giving attackers greater opportunities to steal credentials, monitor communications, and access sensitive enterprise data. Beyond external threats, organisations are also facing growing internal risk as employees increasingly adopt AI-enabled mobile applications. AI adoption within mobile applications has grown 14x on Android and 7x on iOS, creating new challenges around data privacy, governance, compliance, and intellectual property protection. Importance of integrating security The report also examines how AI-assisted application development is reshaping enterprise mobile security. Overview - Viação Santa Brígida is a major operator serving São Paulo with a fleet of more than 650 buses. To improve fleet supervision, passenger and driver safety, and operational visibility, the client partnered with Dahua Technology to deploy an intelligent mobile video surveillance and fleet management solution featuring onboard cameras, passenger counting, vehicle tracking, and centralised real-time monitoring. Potential safety risks Challenges - Managing hundreds of buses operating across a densely populated metropolitan area requires continuous coordination and reliable access to operational information. Viação Santa Brígida needed a more effective way to monitor its vehicles in real time and respond rapidly to incidents. Limited visibility inside and around buses made it difficult for the company to verify events, identify potential safety risks, and support drivers during daily operations.
