Chubb’s integrated retail security system installed at Kendal K-Village

The requirements included installation of a fire and security system at the shopping centre in Cumbria

Shoppers and workers at the new K-Village in Kendal are being protected from the threats of fire and vandalism thanks to a fire and security system from Chubb. Chubb is a subsidiary of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corporation.

The M&E consultants selected Chubb based on its competitive tender. The requirements included installation of a fully networked fire alarm, Public Address/Voice Alarm (PAVA) system, disabled refuge, CCTV and intruder alarm and access control system at the shopping centre in Cumbria. A spokesman for the M&E contractor notes: "Fire and security are of paramount importance to any site but particularly where the public are concerned."

The £100m K Village, The Lakes Outlet, opened at the end of July following completion of the redevelopment programme by Kendal Riverside Ltd. The state-of-the-art shopping and leisure complex will employ some 300 full-time and part-time workers and aims to attract over 1.5 million visitors annually.

"Not only is protecting the public and staff from the threat of fire in a busy shopping centre a high priority," she said, "but also the shops and all their goods from vandalism and theft. Chubb has worked with the M&E consultants to provide a complete fire and security solution as it has done at a number of other shopping centres in the UK."
