ASIS’ CCP Certification is now a component of Certificate in Security Management from Buckinghamshire New University

CPP designation is awarded to individuals whose primary responsibility is security management

ASIS International, the world's pre-eminent association for security professionals, has announced that Buckinghamshire New University has recognised the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification as a component of its Certificate in Security Management. Students will have thereafter the possibility to advance studies towards their MSc in Business Continuity, Security & Emergency Management.

David Cresswell CPP PSP, Chair of the European Education Subcommittee of ASIS International said: "The recognition of the CPP by Buckinghamshire New University demonstrates that the ASIS certification constitutes an invaluable tool in assessing security professionals' skills."

Baroness Henig, Chair of the UK Government's Security Industry Authority, added: "The formal education of individuals, both those already working in security-related roles and those newly starting their career, is one way in which the industry can continue to move forward and maintain its aim to drive up standards and so create a better and safer environment for the public. Creating functional and successful security university courses contributes to the continuing development of a modern security industry, and it is encouraging to see this being achieved through the work of various educational institutions. Degree and postgraduate-level security courses demonstrate to the general public the level of professionalism to be found in the industry and how seriously the security industry takes the development of its employees."

CPP is the pre-eminent designation awarded to individuals whose primary responsibilities are in security management and who have demonstrated advanced knowledge in security solutions and best business practices.

In order to be granted the award of the Certificate, CPP holders will be required by the University to undertake two main tasks:

1. a formative assessment to give some ideas on academic writing,
2. and the main assessment which consists of a 5000 word essay.

Upon completion, students will be awarded the Certificate in Security Management and will have earned 60 of the 180 credits necessary for the MSc, should they wish to take their studies to that level. The cost of the programme to take CPP-holders to the Certificate level will be £500 per student.

There is no stipulation on how the CPP has been achieved (Chapter Programme, Course, On-Line Programme, Self-Study etc). All that is required is that students presenting themselves for enrolment onto the programme have a current CPP.

ASIS International is presently working on similar agreements with universities in other European countries.
