Proxim has won several large equipment bids with MegaFon beginning in 2008
The state-of-the-art system will be installed in a number of MegaFon's operating regions

Proxim Wireless Corporation, a leading provider of high performance outdoor wireless broadband systems, has been selected as the equipment manufacturer by MegaFon. MegaFon is one of Russia's three largest mobile service providers and the only operator in Russia that operates its own network and provides a range of services throughout the country.

Proxim has won several large equipment bids with MegaFon beginning in 2008 when its WiMAX equipment was installed throughout the Volga (Povolzhie) area, one of the country's 12 economic regions. Povolzhie is a historical region in Russia that encompasses the territories adjacent to the flow of the Volga River. The most recent award includes the installation of the Tsunami MP-8160 CPE, a 100Mbps capacity customer premises equipment that operates in the 5.900 - 6.425 GHz frequencies and the Tsunami MP-8160point-to-multipoint base station system.

The new system will be installed in a number of MegaFon's operating regions, including the Moscow and St. Petersburg regions of Russia. According to the 2010 government census, Moscow, with a population of 11,514,000 people, is the sixth largest city proper in the world and the most populous city on the continent of Europe while Saint Petersburg is the second largest city in Russia with a population of 4,848,700.

The project will be implemented in Russia by Proxim Wireless in partnership with RK-TELECOM - one of the largest system integrators in Russia. RK-TELECOM will not only supply the equipment, but also provide assembly, installation, and commissioning services and will take care of providing service maintenance, including warranty support.

"MegaFon is one of the leading WiMAX operators for B2B and is very particular with its choice of equipment providers. Our stringent technical standards narrowed the manufacturer base down to only a few select vendors whose equipment needed to pass our testing requirements which can take up to a year," said Valery Ermakov, First Deputy General Director for Operations, and Chief Operating Officer at MegaFon. "Proxim's equipment has consistently outperformed other manufacturers, and we are pleased to utilise them once again as our vendor in our regions."

"Our equipment has been proven to surpass service provider class standards in both sparsly populated areas, such as Povolzhie, and in larger populated cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg," said Mike Foster, Senior Vice President of Global Sales of Proxim Wireless. "Winning our third tender bid with MegaFon is another positive milestone in the Russian market for Proxim."
