Nedap and Hitachi worked together to integrate finger vein verification into the Nedap access control system AEOS |
Finger vein recognition is a relatively new biometric technology. Each individual's vein pattern is unique and thus provides an excellent biometric identifier. Finger vein recognition works by shining infrared light through the finger. The infrared light is absorbed by the haemoglobin of the blood in the veins. This results in an image of the unique vein pattern.
The integration of finger vein biometrics in AEOS provides great advantages compared to other biometric technologies.
Since the veins are located inside the body, invisible to the eye and not accessible, they are extremely difficult to forge and impossible to manipulate. By using light transmission instead of light reflection, it doesn't matter what the condition of the skin surface is.
The full integration in AEOS means that no other system or database is connected and all the features like communication, enrolment, verification and storage of the biometric data are handled in the secure AEOS environment. The finger vein reader can be used in combination with all AEOS features such as event monitoring and real-time update of the authorisations.
